Testing out the concept of turning myself into a dancer figurine.> The idea of jewellery box dancers, figurines and statues came from thinking about what things exist that give an example of what a dancer should look like.> Making myself into a figurine invokes my ideas about time and ability. I feel the pressure of time baring down on me as I get older, as dance relies on youth. As I am just starting dance again I also feel that I am behind in my abilities. Figurines are frozen. Frozen in the sense that they do not age and time is endless, and therefore their youth and ability is kept forever, but also frozen in the sense that they cannot move, they are restricted, much in line with my struggle, with being restricted by my beginner body and abilities.
This is just the initial test with this idea and with editing techniques, so there is still a lot of development to be done to get the right look and to express my message clearly.

"I’m always interested in tensions. A primary one is that collision between the familiar and the strange. I think that exists in all of my pictures; an unexpected sense of mystery or strangeness or beauty."
